ABSTRACT
 
 The purpose of this study is to determine the effect shading and mulching on microclimates in tomato plants. This used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) method with shade mulch treatment consisting 6 levels namely without (NTM), plastic (NMP), straw (NMJ) (TNTM) , (TNMP), (TNMJ). Each was repeated three times so that there were 18 experimental units. parameters observed are plant including height, number branches, age flowering, fruit plants weight. Microclimate observations include measurements soil moisture, temperature, ambient temperature humidity, wind speed light absorption. Soil physical chemical properties included texture, volume weight, specific gravity, pH, available K, porosity, organic matter, total N, field capacity withering point. results showed use affected moisture content. Shade can also reduce air increase humidity. At very influential because it while affects radiation received absorbed by temperature. absorption light, where lower than shade. Data growth production analyzed using variance tested further BNT advanced level 5%. has significant height observation variable at 52 days after planting, but does not have variables flowering age, fruits weight (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill).
